The 18 bedroom hotel, originally the manse to the adjacent church, was converted to an Inn in 1888. The building was extensively modernised to become a hotel in 1937. It is situated on the North Eastern shore of the Lake of Menteith, formerly known as Loch Inchmahome. Inchmahome Island in the centre of the lake is a popular tourist destination, upon which the ancient Inchmahome Abbey ruins are to be found, where allegedly young Mary Queen of Scots once sought refuge.
